Why are we dedicated to this mission?
All of our brains are at risk. Of the top 10 causes of death in America, Alzheimer’s is the only disease that cannot be prevented, cured, or slowed.
Currently, very few FDA-approved drugs are available to treat the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. These medications temporarily mask memory and thinking problems in some people. They do not treat the underlying causes of Alzheimer’s disease.
The burden is great
An estimated 6.9 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, and 1 in 3 senior Americans die with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia (Alzehiemer’s Association facts and figures)
The costs associated with dementia are also expected to more than double from US $1.3 trillion per year in 2019 to $2.8 trillion dollars by 2030. (2023 World Alzheimers Report)
By 2025, the number of Americans age 65 and older with Alzheimer’s disease is projected to reach 7.1 million (Alzheimers.net)
Worldwide, an estimated 55 million people are living with dementia. This number is projected to reach 139 million people by 2050. (2023 World Alzheimer report)
